I'm just glad we're proving quite a few people wrong, says Warrilow

TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow urges fans to return to Longmead Stadium for the visit of struggling Waltham Abbey on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Angels climbed up a couple of places into sixth in the Ryman Premier League table courtesy of their
2-1 home win over bitter-rivals Maidstone United last night.

In front of a crowd of 697 at Longmead Stadium, goals from Sam Long and an Mark Corneille own-goal ensured Tonbridge stretched their unbeaten run to eight.

The excellent run of form has taken the club from fourth-from-bottom (6th February) to within two points of a Boreham Wood side that occupy the final play-off berth.

Warrilow has told his side that they can’t afford any complacency when Waltham Abbey visit on Saturday.

Coach Terry Sedge will report back to Warrilow his thought’s on the Essex side’s 1-1 home draw against play-off chasers Boreham Wood last night.

Warrilow, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk following his derby day success said, “They’ve drawn 1-1 tonight with Boreham Wood, Tel went up there to have a look at them today.

“Again, they got a good result (a 2-0 win) at Hendon at the weekend and they’ve drawn at Boreham Wood tonight so again, we’re going to roll our players up.  It may not be pretty but we’re going to scrap it out again.”

Warrilow must assess the fitness of wingers Kirk Watts (sore ankle) and Jerhal Hugges (groin) ahead of the game, but admits there’s “a buzz around the place” thanks to their good form in recent weeks.

With the fans flocking through the turnstiles for the visit of the Stones, Warrilow wants the same numbers for Saturday’s game.

“It will be nice that every week, wouldn’t it?” said Warrilow.

“It’s the sign of the times, it’s not just us, the gates are down.  We need to get them back to where they were. We averaged 500, I think, last year. We’re down 100 this year so we need to get that back to the figure if we can.

“If we carry on winning games that will rectify itself.”

With only 24 points left to play for, the Angels took their points tally to 51 last night and are on course to finish in the play-off places, when all seemed lost a few weeks back.

“I’m just glad we’re proving quite a few people wrong.  That’s a nice feeling,” said the boss.
