I'm staying put at Whitstable, says "flattered" Seager
Whitstable Town’s young manager Marc Seager has played down speculation linking him to the vacant managers job at nearby Sittingbourne, writes Stephen McCartney.
Seager, his assistant Simon Halsey and Physio Graeme Brown were in the main stand at The Homelands last night, braving the bitterly cold conditions, to see Worthing seal a 4-0 win over Ashford Town.
The trio were on a scouting mission ahead of Saturday’s trip to Woodside Road to play an in-form Worthing side.
A hat-trick from Ben Johnson and a free-kick from skipper Ben Andrews, a defender playing as a makeshift striker, ensured the Rebels went seven games unbeaten to climb up to fourth place in the Ryman League Division One South table.
But Seager is very happy to stay at The Belmont to establish last season’s Kent League double winners as a Ryman League outfit.
“I was at the Ashford v Worthing game last night and the press were linking me to other clubs and I felt I needed to put the record straight as I want to concentrate fully on finishing the job I started at Whitstable as I feel the job is only half done,” he told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.
“I said I would get the cub promoted, we’ve done that and now I want to establish us a Ryman League side; then see how far the club can go.
“It’s no secret that I am ambitious, so are the club and all the while we are pulling together, which has always been the case in my time at Whitstable, then I am happy as manager of Whitstable Town.
"Someone asked me if I was enjoying managing as much this season after the wonderful success we enjoyed last, you bet I am.
“We are now playing the likes of Dover, Kingstonian and other great long established clubs which means that I can test myself at a higher level against much more experienced managers.
"I have only been in management for just about two years and it’s been a roller coaster so far and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
“My family are behind me; I get the full support of the club and the supporters, the players get a great pitch to play on and we are improving all the time both on the field and off.
“So as far as the rumours go, I am flattered that my name has been linked to other clubs which to me means I must be doing something right, but I am very happy at Whitstable.”
Sittingbourne secretary Mr John Pitts, meanwhile, revealed that the Bourne Park club have interviewed four managers so far this week - but didn’t reveal any names.
