I'm sure Joe Pigott will be a great asset for us and score goals, says Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

BROMLEY boss Mark Goldberg has signed his second striker this week by bringing Joe Pigott in on loan from Charlton Athletic.

The 18-year-old has signed for the Blue Square Bet (Conference) South club on loan until 1 January 2013.

Goldberg, who signed Louie Theophanous, 21, from their league rivals Staines Town on Tuesday afternoon, said he was impressed with Pigott whilst watching his son Bradley play for the Addicks.

Pigott has been granted permission to feature in Bromley’s home tie against Boreham Wood in The FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday.

Goldberg told www.bromleyfc.net: I’m delighted to welcome Joe Pigott on loan from Charlton Athletic.

“I’ve watched Joe at both under 18s and reserve team level having played alongside my son, Bradley.

“He has always been a player I have respected and comes highly rated. He’s intelligent and can link up play and has an innate ability to get goals.

“As with Bradley (who is playing for Ryman Premier League side Hastings United), this year the boys are more ready for men’s football and I’m sure Joe will be a great asset for the team and score goals.”

The teenager has been a feature in Charlton’s development squad this season – scoring three goals in eight appearances in the Professional Development League 2 – South so far.

After finding the net 14 times for Charlton’s U18 side last year, the Kent-born forward travelled with Charlton’s first-team squad for their match against Preston North End at the end of last season and was given the squad number 35.

The academy product scored with a neat finish when a Charlton Athletic XI beat Bromley 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at Hayes Lane in July.

The terms of the youth loan mean that Pigott is eligible to play for Charlton in under- 21 matches should the club take up the option of selecting him.

Goldberg said following his side’s 3-1 home win over Gillingham in the Kent Senior Cup Second Round on Tuesday night that one player will depart Hayes Lane to balance the books.
