In-form Margate "can go all the way," according to chairman
Margate chairman Mr Malcolm Rowlett feels the Hartsdown Park Club “can go all the way” following their marvellous 3-1 midweek win at unbeaten Ryman Premier League leaders Bromley.
Margate enjoyed a dream start at Hayes Lane when Danny Hockton netted his 19th goal in 20 starts on seven minutes.
The Thanet side then doubled their advantage through James Pinnock’s stunning strike on 24 minutes.
Bromley deservedly pulled a goal back on 74 minutes through Nick McDonnell but then after repelling increasingly desperate Bromley attack, Margate added a third through Steve McKimm to seal the points.
Mr Rowlett told www.margate-fc.com that he was pleased that the team picked up their fourth successive league win to climb up into fourth place in the table - just one point off top spot.
“Well, we was really hoping for a good result here but that’s even better than we anticipated. Absolutely brilliant. Really pleased,” he said after their win at Hayes Lane.
“Well, I think we can go all the way now. Yes, we had that blip but I think we’re over that now, playing very well as well and getting the results, so yes, let’s go forward.”
Margate are relishing their trip to Kent rivals Tonbridge Angels on Saturday and then they have games against Staines Town (home), Carshalton Athletic (home), Horsham (away), Hendon (home) and Ashford Town Middlesex (away) before their Boxing Day showdown at Ramsgate.
Mr Rowlett added: “You get Tonbridge out of the way and that Boxing Day fixture is getting very, very near.”
