It'll be a miracle if we get promotion with our off-field problems, says Cugley

FOLKESTONE INVICTA welcome Merstham to Cheriton Road this weekend knowing that the next seven days could be crucial for the clubs very future, writes Mike Green. When www.kentishfootball.co.uk spoke with Invicta boss Neil Cugley this week, he recalled the tough game that the Surrey side had given his players in the reverse fixture.
“We played down there earlier in the season and to be fair they were a very exciting side and we were fortunate to get a draw,” he said.
“But they’ve lost their two main wingers and their centre forward who have moved onto higher clubs. But they come to us this week with us top and playing well so fingers crossed.”
The manager turned his attention to events off the pitch that seemingly come to a head a Cheriton Road next Friday when a shareholders meeting has been called.
Cugley admitted, “It’s going to be a long week for the club. The position that we’ve been in has been ongoing for 15 / 16 months now and I hear things – some I’m told, some I’m not and all I can do is get on with it.
“It’s been difficult but we’re top of the League – maybe it would have been easier for the club if we had losing and mid table and no one seemed to have cared. But we’re top and got a good side there and that’s the disappointment.”
“If I’m absolutely honest I do think it’ll be a miracle if we get promotion with the way things seem to be going off the field but we’ll have to wait and see what next Friday brings.
“But on the field I’ve got a great bunch of players – we’ve got a small squad a lot of them very young and they’ve been absolutely brilliant!”
