It'll be nice to finally get going, says Ashford United boss Paul Chambers

SAM FISHER has re-signed to help Ashford United in their quest for Kent Invicta League promotion.
Manager Paul Chambers revealed the news this week and he declared his squad “pretty much complete” ahead of Saturday’s first pre-season friendly at home to Ramsgate.
Fisher has a good pedigree having been at Gillingham as a youngster before going on to play for Ryman League Ramsgate.
He moved to Ashford United last year but picked up a knee injury that curtailed his season early.
Chambers told www.ashfordunited.co.uk: “Sam’s back and he’s looking really good in pre-season training.
“Having him fit again is like having a new signing as we hardly got to see him last season.
“He did his kneecap in and had to sit out but he’s over that now which is good for us.
“As well as Sam signing we’ve managed to get Luke and Adam Cuthbert over from Phoenix Sports.
“They’re brothers, Luke’s a defender and Adam’s a midfielder, and I’ve known about them for a few years.
“I played with them at Phoenix three years ago and they're the ideal players for what we’re looking for.”
The Cuthbert brothers helped Phoenix finish second in the Kent Invicta League last year and their experience and knowledge of the division will be a big asset this time around.
But before the league campaign starts Ashford United have a pre-season campaign to finish – or at least get underway.
Ashford’s first clash away at Whitstable fell victim to the weekend’s bad weather.
Chambers said: “It’ll be nice to finally get going as we couldn’t wait to play on Saturday.
“I was racking my brains and I reckon that’s the first time in my career that a pre-season game has ever been cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch!
“Ramsgate are a good team and it’ll be a tough test for our boys as they’re a couple of leagues above us.
“We may play two teams, one in either half, but we’ll have to see on that one.”
Mo Takaloo is all set to take on his old club when Ramsgate come to Homelands Stadium while Stuart Zanone will play his first game in the green and white of Ashford following his arrival from Rochester United.
