It remains our intention to appoint an ambitious and suitable qualified person, says Gary Johnson

WHITSTABLE TOWN are set to unveil their new manager by the time they play away to Chatham Town next weekend, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Oystermen travel to ninth-placed Godalming Town tomorrow, sitting in one of the relegation places in Ryman League Division One South, and are about to start interviewing candidates to find Mark Lane’s successor.

Caretaker manager, Steve Nolan, has taken charge of three games, picking up four points, against Ramsgate (1-0), Faversham Town (1-1) but suffered a last-gasp 1-0 defeat at home to Dulwich Hamlet last weekend.

“On behalf of The Board of Whitstable Town, I am pleased to advise that I have received in excess of 50 enquiries as a result of our recent first team manager’s vacancy recently advertised,” said Gary Johnson, the club’s vice-chairman and secretary.

He added: “Indeed at Mondays Board meeting we sifted through 31 CVs since when a further four have been received!!!!

“Having shortlisted those candidates, we have arranged a number of interviews over the weekend and early into next week; were hopeful that by this time next week we may have appointed the successful candidate.

“The quality of applicants has been high, with a number of very qualified Coach’s from within Kent and the Home Counties having applied; but it remains our intention to appoint an ambitious and suitably qualified person whom has at least managed at this level to steer us away from our current lowly position.

“With great facilities and support of the town, Whitstable Town Football Club are well placed for future advancement given we attract and appoint the right calibre of football leader whom can inspire the current crop of players whilst adding where necessary.”

Meanwhile, the Board has requested that Mr Johnson continue as secretary until the end of the current season when matters can be reassessed; however the club now seek both a first team physio and commercial manager to support the clubs future continued development both on and off the field.

Interested parties should contact Gary Johnson directly: 07957 424 810 or  gt_johnson@lineone.net.

Meanwhile, the twice postponed Kent Senior Cup home tie against Welling United has been rescheduled for Tuesday 1 February (7:45pm).
