It's a chance to prove we're the best side in Kent, says Gillingham boss Ian Varley

Thursday 19th April 2012
GILLINGHAM Ladies manager Ian Varley takes his side to Sevenoaks for their second Kent Women’s Cup Final in three years tonight.

The former Sittingbourne defender is hoping his side can repeat their performance of two seasons ago when they beat Millwall Lionesses reserves in the final 1-0.

Looking ahead to the game against holders Charlton Athletic, Varley told www.gillinghamladies.clubfans.co.uk he is looking forward to the Greatness Park clash.

He said: “We are looking forward to it and it should be a good occasion and it is a competition that we are looking to win.

“Other teams have their reserve sides in the competition but for us it is a chance to prove that we are the best side in Kent.

“Really we should be looking to win it every year and we were disappointed not to win it last year, losing to Millwall in the semi-finals.

“To win it two out of three years that is something we are looking to do and hopefully if we bring home the trophy it will finish another good season.”

Varley added: “I think the fact that we have been in the final before and won it before will help us massively, as it is a big occasion.

“It will be a good occasion with two or three hundred supporters there, and with our girls knowing their girls and vice versa it should be a good game.

“We have that experience now of the final and playing in it whereas two years ago it was a massive occasion and that might have affected how we played in the game.

“Hopefully we are bringing that trophy back to Gillingham again tonight.”

Admission charges for tonight's game are £4 (adults) and £2 (concessions).
