It’s important that no-one starts pressing the panic button, says Tommy Warrilow

TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow takes his side to Cray Wanderers on Tuesday night looking to bounce back from their FA Carlsberg Trophy exit at the weekend, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Angels missed out on a lucrative First Round trip to Luton Town next month as striker Luis Cumbers scored Welling United’s only goal between the two Kent sides at Park View Road at the weekend - the second successive season that Jamie Day’s side have knocked Warrilow’s men out of the competition.
“It’s disappointing that we’ve gone out of the Trophy, as we wanted to put a run together and get a little revenue for the club,” Warrilow told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“We matched a team from a higher league today, we haven’t been playing badly, but unfortunately we’ve lost 1-0.”
The Angels suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Cray Wanderers back on the 21 September, a result that left the club 18th in the Ryman Premier League table.
That was their fifth league defeat of the season, but Warrilow shock up his squad during a ten-day period of inactivity on the pitch and the Angels responded with a morale-boosting 7-1 home win over AFC Hornchurch, which started a nine-match unbeaten run (winning six straight games), before that run was ended by AFC Hornchurch on 13 November, before Thamesmead Town and Welling United ended the club’s Championship Manager Cup and FA Carlsberg Trophy interest for another year.
Cray Wanderers’ five match uneaten run was ended with a disappointing 4-2 away defeat at Canvey Island at the weekend.
Reflecting on their 4-0 defeat to Ian Jenkins’ side earlier in the season, Warrilow told www.kentishfootball.co.uk: “That result did me a favour. It gave the lads a wake-up call for the season.
“I’ve said all along that going to Cray and (playing at home to) Kingstonian, we’ll go there to win and we want to win as many games as we can.”
With Cray in fifth place and Tonbridge in 12th, seven points behind, Warrilow added: “But at the start of the season our aim was to get out of the league and that’s what we want to do.
“We’ve got a couple of hard games coming up against teams around us. We can get victories under our belts and get the fans cheering again, because the league is so tight, it’s important that no-one starts pressing the panic button whether we win the next four or five, or results go the other way.”
