It's important that we keep concentrating, says Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders

MAIDSTONE UNITED boss Jay Saunders says he is expecting another tough game down at Horsham on Tuesday night.



The Stones maintained the pressure on league leaders Dulwich Hamlet after winning a seven-goal thriller at Hythe Town on Saturday.

They are in second-place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 43 points from 20 games and are two points behind Gavin Rose’s side, but with a couple of games in hand.

The two clubs will face each other in an early title decider at Champion Hill on 19 January.

But Maidstone United face Horsham, Crawley Down Gatwick and Burgess Hill Town before their mouth-watering showdown in south London – but Saunders admitted that he isn’t even thinking that far ahead at this stage.

“If we look at the Dulwich game and we don’t get three points on Tuesday night then those three points we got at Hythe aren’t worth a lot,” said Saunders.

“It’s important that we keep concentrating.  Hopefully the support will be down at Horsham.  I thought they were immense on Saturday and a credit to the club.  Hopefully they can go to Horsham on Tuesday night and get behind the boys again.”

The Hornets lie in fifteenth-place in the table, with 27 points from 21 games.

Saunders said: “It’s going to be another tough one.  I think every game is in this league, but if we can win at places like Hythe and put in a sort of performance that we’re capable of then we should be able to go to places and get three points.

“We’ve dropped some points against teams that we probably shouldn’t have been turned over, so the boys have got to look after themselves and go there and put on a performance.”
