I want my team to be an hard, ugly, horrible team to play against, says Whitstable boss Peter Nott

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Peter Nott has told his side to beat Worthing in the FA Cup on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.Nott was furious with his side over a disappointing holiday weekend, which saw them lose 2-0 at home to Merstham and then 4-1 away to Folkestone Invicta.
The Oystermen have picked up six points from their opening four games and sit in midtable in the Ryman League Division One South table at this early stage.
Victory over their league rivals Worthing, in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup on Saturday, will ease the pressure and Nott knows with £1,500 up for grabs for the winner, Saturday is a must-win game.
“The Cup’s very important, apart from the glamour it brings, it’s very important financially, especially to a club like Whitstable,” emphasised Nott.
“But am I confident at the moment those boys’ will go onto the pitch and cross that line and fight for me? No I’m not!
“I’m not saying to you guys (the press) what I haven’t said in there (my dressing room). We had that screaming session on Saturday. They’re either not listening or are trying to take me on or they ain’t good enough and I hope people are brave enough to take me on because if they did they would have shown that level of commitment out there.”
Nott added: “The first two games we got what we got – the effort was there and we were a hard team to play against. We kept on bouncing back and then you get two games on the spin now and all that has gone now.
“In this league you can fight your way into the top half just being a hard, ugly, horrible team to play against and that will give you the top half. There is not a lot of flair in it. We’re nowhere near being that type of team. If I had that type of team then I’d add a little bit of quality into it.”
Whitstable will travel to either Chatham Town or Croydon Athletic in the First Qualifying Round on 17 September if they ease past Worthing.
