I want players to grab the headlines, says Fleet boss Liam Daish

EBBSFLEET UNITED boss Liam Daish says he wants his side to up their game after being handed a second bite of the cherry in their FA Cup Second Qualifying Round tie against Cray Wanderers, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Fleet came away from Hayes Lane with a 2-2 draw yesterday, having had chances to win the game - and lose the game - on the day.
Paul Lorraine headed home his first goal of the season to give Ebbsfleet a 20th minute lead, before Cray levelled through Danny Phillips’ sublime chip just eleven minutes later.
Cray striker Laurent Hamici slotted home a 75th minute goal to give the Ryman Premier Leaguers the lead, but Fleet’s striker Calum Willock flicked home his sixth goal of the season just eight minutes from time.
Ebbsfleet squandered a chance to win it late on but substitute Ashley Carew - who used to play for Bromley - had a penalty saved by the diving Cray keeper Dave King.
“I’ve just told the lads to prepare well and look after themselves over the weekend and turn up on Tuesday with a better performance in them to actually get through,” Daish told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
The Fleet were due to play just one home league game between now and the end of October, so at least Tuesday night’s replay will bolster coffers into the Stonebridge Road club.
“I’m sure the club will look at it, we didn’t have a home game for three weeks and now we have a home game so there’s a gate, which we need,” said Daish.
Reflecting on the game, within 30 minutes of the final whistle, Daish added: “I still haven’t taken it in yet, missing a penalty, but we could’ve lost it. We could’ve won it. It was one of them today.”
Daish hopes a passionate Stonebridge Road crowd will see their side through against a Cray Wanderers side that are now unbeaten in seven games.
He said: “Some of the early ties in the FA Cup are the hard ones to progress because you’ve got to motivate yourself in the FA Cup. It can turn into all sorts, the FA Cup, you’ve got to work hard yourself and do it right in the early stages.”
He added: “I would just like someone to make a real name for themselves and be the headline maker.”
Cray Wanderers boss Ian Jenkins, was also expressing mixed feelings over the result, but has another chance as he aims to guide his beloved club into the first round proper for the first time in the club’s proud 150 year history.
“I think it is a winnable tie,” Jenkins told www.kentishfootball.co.uk. “The surface down at Ebbsfleet’s ground will be much better than it is down here (Hayes Lane), conducive to both teams to play football as they do and we do.
“It would be nice if we could get closer to the first round proper. We speak about it a lot, the chairman’s spoken about it. People say your name could be on it or whatever, that penalty save at the end has kept us in it. If it goes in we’re out and I’ll be standing her a bit disappointed. Hopefully we can do it (and win on) Tuesday.
“Hopefully it’s as entertaining as it was today. I thought second half it was outstanding Cup football, both sides, it’s all about Tuesday now.”
When asked what he was expecting at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday, Jenkins replied, “I expect much the same again! Maybe they’ve got a little bit more, I don’t know.
“Paul (Blade, my assistant manager) watched them last week and he said how they played was how we set up against them. I was happy with how the tactics went. We’ll be up for it again.”
Jenkins was pleased with the four minute cameo for the returning Leigh Bremner, who almost snatched victory at the death, but his shot was cleared out of the six-yard box by Clint Easton.
He said: “It’s good to see Brems’ come back, we was all thinking, long-term (injured).
“I’m really surprised. I only put him on the bench because Hammo (Mark Hammond) wasn’t fit to go on the bench. Leigh told me he was fit to go on so if Leigh is fit to go on he goes on.
“He was unlucky not to win the game in the last minute for us but it’s good to see him back.”
