I want to continue to win things at Bromley, says long-serving Tutu Henriques

Sunday 29th August 2010
BROMLEY boss Mark Goldberg says he will be treating Bishop’s Stortford with respect ahead of their trip to Woodside Park on Monday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Lillywhites remain at the top of the Blue Square Bet South table following yesterday’s Kent derby win over Welling United at Hayes Lane.

A crowd of 940 saw an eight minute brace from striker Warren McBean hand Bromley the upper hand, before a lethargic Welling side grabbed a 90th minute consolation through substitute Ben Billings.

Bishop’s Stortford go into the game sitting in fifth place in the table, following their 3-1 win at Thurrock yesterday.

Goldberg, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk, expects a tough game in Hertfordshire, despite his side’s 100% start from their opening five games.

“Bishop’s Stortford are going to be a very difficult side, they always give us all kinds of problems when we go there,” he warned.

“They do like to play football and they’re capable of hitting teams on the break.

“We’re not under-estimating our opposition on Monday, quite the opposite, we’re going into the game knowing how hard it’s going to be but believing we can get at least a point - if not three points.”

Bromley are realising their potential at present and for the versatile Tutu Henriques he has seen everything during his seven years at Hayes Lane.

Henriques - who can play in defence or midfield - is the longest serving player at the club after then manager Stuart McIntyre signed him from Carshalton Athletic.

In an interview published inside yesterday’s match day programme, Henriques said: “There has been a lot of changes to the club since I first set foot in here.  There is a lot more professionalism behind the scenes, and the money making organisation that is Bromley Football Club has grown a lot, which is amazing to see.

“We’ve got soccer academies, soccer schools, we’re in school’s, getting kids out during the holidays and the set-up of the management is also driving us forward.”

The club was playing two league’s lower in Ryman League Division One when Henriques first joined the club.

He said: “To be perfectly honest I never looked that far forward to se e how we could grow, it was only something that the management teams had spoke about as an idea in their heads and as a picture.

“They saw a club going forward, so it is amazing to see the club in this state now.

“It is a really good achievement for myself and for the club and one that I am proud of.  I’ve enjoyed all off my times at the club and it’s just about playing consistently well and getting the results at this level, which is something that hopefully we can keep doing.”

Despite sitting proudly at the summit, Goldberg and his management team are not going over board and are keeping all the players’ feet on the ground.

Henriques said: “They haven’t been letting us get too carried away.  The players and management are just keeping their focus and concentrating on whoever is coming next and what we need to do to beat them.”

He added: “I want to play well and continue to win things with Bromley.”

Bromley will welcome back Jerrome Sobers following suspension on Monday, although Salifou Ibrahima is expected to miss out, having suffered a bruised ankle against Welling United.

Reis Boyle (family) is available, but Sam Butler (knee) could be fit enough for the trip to Maidenhead next Saturday.

Bromley’s official match day programme is available at £2.50
