I will not fail to deliver the goods, vows Lovell

STEVE LOVELL has reacted to angry calls from Ashford Town fans demanding his resignation, following their 1-0 defeat to Sittingbourne in midweek, writes Stephen McCartney.

Despite sitting in 8th place in the Ryman League Division One South table - eight points adrift of league leaders Kingstonian - this is not good enough for some of the Homelands faithful, if internet fans’ forums are anything to go by.

Questions such as 'is Steve Lovell good enough to take us up this year?' have been discussed on the club’s fans’ forum on it’s official website, but the Welshman insists he is the man to guide the club to where it wants to be.

“It wasn’t a good performance on Tuesday and everyone, especially the fans are entitled to their say, but running away from things isn’t the right thing to do and is certainly not in my game plan and I intend to finish the job I started out to do,” Lovell vowed, when speaking to www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk.

The former Sittingbourne boss has told fans not to panic, especially as they’ve picked up four wins, four draws and four losses so far this season.

He said: “There have been 12 games played and some people are pressing the panic button already. However, we are only two points off the play-off places without really playing as I know we can.

“I can see where the problems lie and we are working hard to put them right. We have put in some decent performances this year, but we are lacking the consistency that will see us move up the table.

“I am confident (assistant manager) Hugo Langton and I can produce the football that will put us in a great position at the end of the season.

“Unfortunately there are people out there who want me to fail – that is part of football, but no-one is going to change my way and I am confident in my own ability. I am determined to finish the job I have started.

“Those who are behind us at the – thanks for the support, it is much appreciated. To the others – I sincerely hope we can turn your thinking around in the next couple of months as we try to fulfil our aims for the season. And please continue to get behind the players, they need your support.”

The Nuts & Bolts are not in FA Carlsberg Trophy tomorrow as they were eliminated by Great Wakering Rovers at the first hurdle.

However, their next game will be at home to Croydon Athletic on Saturday, 25^th October.
