I will put a side together that the town of Sittingbourne will be proud off, says Nick Davis

SITTINGBOURNE boss Nick Davis says he will ring the changes to improve his side’s poor run of form.

The Brickies have slipped down the Ryman League Division One South table into 12^th position, having collected 35 points from 28 games.

Davis regained control of the Woodstock Park hot-seat on 5 November 2014 and since then has guided the team to one win and two draws in his ten games back in charge.

Sittingbourne went down to a 3-0 defeat away to league leaders Faversham Town on Boxing Day.

“If we play like we did in the first half against Faversham, we will be ok, as we were the better side,” reflected Davis.

“The problem is a game of football is played over 90 minutes and we were our own worst enemies in the manner of conceding and losing the game.”

Davis is ready to start the New Year by yielding the axe to stop the club sliding down the league table.

Sittingbourne are ninth points adrift of fifth-placed Whyteleafe and thirteen points clear of the relegation zone.

“I am slowly putting my stamp on the side and have given all of the players the opportunity to show me what they can do,” said Davis.

“The bottom line is the squad as a whole is not strong enough and so some big changes will be happening over the coming weeks.”

Davis said he was pleased with the performance of tall striker Harry Smith against the Lilywhites.

“A massive plus for me was Harry Smith making his first start for the club since leaving under the old manager.

“He made a massive difference to our side. He was up against two experienced centre halves and I thought he was outstanding.”

Sittingbourne welcome fifth-placed Folkestone Invicta to Woodstock Park on New Years’ Day, before travelling to eleventh-placed Whitstable Town on Saturday.

Davis said: “Folkestone are a side in the top five so another real tough test for us.”

Davis has brought in former Bearsted manager and Phoenix Sports coach Tony Cornwell as his new assistant manager.

“I have brought Tony in to assist me, who in his short time with working with him has been a great help and his experience and contacts will only help improve us on and off the pitch going forward.

“It was always going to take time but I am fully confident I will put a side together that the town of Sittingbourne will be proud off.”
