The Wings had earlier unveiled Day as their new manager, but according to Dartford’s co-chairman David Skinner later in the evening, the 30-year-old central midfielder remains a Dartford player.
In their first statement, the Wings claimed on their official club website, that the two Kent clubs had agreed that Day could become Welling United’s new manager.
“The club would like to announce their appreciation for Dartford Football Club, who will release Jamie from his commitments at the Darts,” said the Wings statement.
But Welling United were forced to issue the following statement, just hours after unveiling Day as their new boss.
“The earlier announcement of the appointment of Jamie Day as manager is on hold whilst Dartford and ourselves discuss last minute issues that it is hoped will be quickly resolved.”
Mr Skinner, the Dartford co-chairman, was keeping tight-lipped over the present situation, although it is believed that Day is still on contract with the runaway, unbeaten Ryman Premier League leaders.
“I’ve got nothing to add to that,” Mr Skinner told www.kentishfootball.co.uk. “He is still a Dartford player at the moment.”
Reports suggest that Day had beaten former Ebbsfleet United assistant manager Alan Kimble to land the Park View Road job.
The Park View Road club received a total of 51 applications to succeed Andy Ford, who resigned last month.
