Keith McMahon keeps eleven of his Mead family together

THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Keith McMahon has re-signed 11 of his promotion winning side.

The Mead battled against the odds to clinch promotion after finishing in third-place in the Ryman League Division One North last season and went up via epic play-off wins over Witham Town and Maldon & Tiptree.

McMahon signed prolific striker Jon Main, 32, from Welling United last week, but has kept a number of last season’s squad at Bayliss Avenue as the club prepares for their inaugural campaign in the Ryman Premier League.

Among the first to put pen to paper, despite interest from Kent club’s was last season’s top scorer Stuart Zanone, who scored 47 goals last season, 21 of them coming for Kent League side Rochester United before his move to Thamesmead last November.

Manager’s player-of-the-year, central defender, Lewis Tozer has also re-signed, along with former Ilford goalkeeper Rob Budd, 29, who saved two penalties in the play-off final against runners-up Maldon & Titree, which the Mead won 4-1 on penalties after battling back from being 2-0 down inside the opening 13 minutes.

Richard Butler, Rob Carter, Chris Edwards, Tyrus Gordon, Jack Hopkins, Danny Kerrigan, Sean Roberts and Richard Stevens have also put pen to paper.

Thamesmead Town were a close-nit family with immense togetherness and the squad put the club’s off-the-field issues behind them and sealed a remarkable promotion against the odds.

McMahon told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk said: “Delighted obviously that so many of the lads have re-signed already, and throughout the summer like all other managers I’ll be looking to strengthen the squad for next season.”

Meanwhile, the club begins the search for an official club photographer and an official club cameraman.

Press officer Colin Mair said: “As the Mead start to look to our first season in the Ryman Premier League, to help us with the increased media coverage that playing at that level brings, the club needs to find an official club photographer to be responsible for official team photographs for all the teams that the club run, as well as match shots for the first team that can be passed onto local press outlets for use with match reports and press releases.

“The club is also looking to find for the very first time an official club camera person who would be willing to film all home games (and away games if possible – though not necessary at this time) from the new press areas in the new stand at Bayliss Avenue.

“Both posts come with a ground pass valid for the whole season and are voluntary although reasonably expenses will be met.”
