Kent League still unclear over fixture list fiasco

Friday 30th July 2010
FRUSTRATED Kent League secretary Roy Vinter says he doesn’t know when the rest of this season’s fixtures will be published – despite the season kicking off in just eight days time, writes Stephen McCartney.

The League have published just the opening day’s fixture list for its current sixteen clubs, scheduled to be played on 7 August.

And when asked whether Ashford Town, who have withdrawn from the Ryman League, were to be a late entry into the Kent League, Mr Vinter told www.kentishfootball.co.uk: “I don’t know.  All I know is Ashford Town were put into administration yesterday – that’s all I know.

“They’ve said they would like to come into the League, but there not going anywhere until the suspension is lifted at the Football Association.”

On the subject of League fixtures, Mr Vinter added: “Well, we put out the first week and we were holding back but we just have to wait and see now.

“We can’t carry on waiting, obviously, but until we receive some information from the legal people and particularly the FA we can’t move at all.

“We’ve got the FA Cup the following week (14 August), so that takes care of a lot of the teams.”

When asked the publication date for the fixtures, the secretary added: “Matthew Panting is in charge of fixtures and I think he’s tearing his hair out, like anybody else on this one now.”
