K SPORTS manager Barry Morgan says it will be fantastic for the club to win a couple of games in The FA Cup this season.
The Aylesford-based outfit are in fourth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table after opening their campaign with a 1-0 home win over newly-promoted side Holmesdale, before being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Tunbridge Wells on Monday night.
The Paperboys had two penalties from Victor Aiyelabola and Ian Batten saved by Tunbridge Wells goalkeeper Aaron Lee-Wharton, before Richard Styles’ side salvaged a point when centre-half Harry Hudson headed in a late equaliser.
K Sports welcome their league rivals Rusthall to Cobdown in The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday.
Rusthall were promoted alongside Kennington and Holmesdale and are finding life in the Premier Division tough, having lost 5-0 at Fisher on the opening day of the season before losing 4-2 at home to Holmesdale last night.
Lee Roots’ side were 4-0 up after 65 minutes before Jimmy Anderson’s side threw caution to the wind and pulled two goals back through Luke Adams’ penalty and substitute Ijah Currie-Wilson.
“Tough game. It will be fantastic for us to win a game in The FA Cup, win a couple of games,” said Morgan.
“I’m looking at the squad, we’ve got some tired legs. Hopefully we can get everyone right for the weekend.
“It’s lovely if you can get a win in The FA Cup.
“We played out of our skins on Monday night against one of the top outfits in the league.
“Rusthall might have got beat by five at the weekend but it sometimes does really bite you when you don’t want it to.”
Morgan has been out of football management since leaving Rochester United in December 2018.
When asked what kind of league he is expecting this season, Morgan replied: “Do you know what, it’s going to be really, really competitive beneath Sheppey, Chatham and Glebe. They’re the three I think will fight it out for the title.
“I think there’s other good teams in it who have obviously spent a lot of money. Erith & Belvedere, apparently, have got some good players and there’s a couple of other clubs.
“I do generally think it’s between Chatham, Sheppey and Glebe. It’s whose going to be the most consistent out of the three.”
