Our league position is healthy but it’s important we concentrate on our jobs and keep improving, says K Sports boss Barry Morgan

K SPORTS manager Barry Morgan says his side’s league position is healthy but wants his side to continue to improve.

The Paperboys are delivering on the pitch, going into tomorrow’s home game against surprise package Erith Town in eighth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 20 points from 12 games.

Reflecting on their 3-0 win at Welling Town last weekend, Morgan said: “Our last game against Welling Town was a great confidence booster.  We played a new system, kept a clean sheet and scored three goals. 

“I was very happy bouncing back after a fruitless spell. We’ve got a good group of lads and they were buzzing after the game.  Let’s hope we can take that energy into tomorrow’s game.

“I’m sure the game with Erith Town will be a tougher match.  They’re flying up the top end of the table, with some experienced players, mixed with some useful up and coming lads.

“We’ve lost a couple of players to injuries and flu and I have got a few back and signed a couple, so we’re ok at the moment.

“We’re developing a squad after taking over in the summer and I’ve got a good assistant in Ben Franks and a good coach in Luke Thomson, who are very hard-working and enthusiastic.

“Our shape and tempo is improving and we have some useful individuals and hopefully we can keep getting good results.

“Our league position is healthy but it’s important we concentrate on our jobs and keep improving. 

“We didn’t set any targets at the start of the season, other than staying in the division and it’s so important we manage that come the end of the season.”

Adam Woodward’s men arrive at Cobdown sitting in fourth-place in the pecking order, having collected 31 points from their 14 games.

The Dockers are three points adrift of unbeaten league leaders Sheppey United, two behind Chatham Town and Glebe.

Erith Town’s under 18s side were knocked out of The FA Youth Cup in the First Round, going down to a 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth on Wednesday night.

The game was played in front of a record crowd at Erith Sports Stadium with 444 watching Liam Daish’s side progress thanks to Alfie Bridgman’s first-half strike.
