Kevin Brown leaves Borden Village to become Barry Morgan's assistant manager at K Sports
BORDEN VILLAGE begin the search for a new manager after Kevin Brown stepped down from the role today to become Barry Morgan’s assistant manager at K Sports.
Borden Village suffered a 5-1 defeat at Ten-Em-Bee on Saturday, a result that leaves the Sittingbourne-based club in the bottom three in the Kent County League Premier Division table.
The club have won three and drawn four of their 15 league games so far this season and they have K Sports Reserves (10 points from 14 games) and Crockenhill (two points from 13) beneath them in the league table.
“The football club would like to thank Kevin Brown for his work and effort that he put into the club,” said a club statement.
“Whilst we are disappointed at his decision we fully respect his decision and wish him well for the future.
“At present no decision has been made as to his replacement.”
Brown joined the club in May 2020, taking over from Glenn Conlon and Rob Welling.
Brown played for the likes of Sittingbourne, Tonbridge Angels, Gravesend & Northfleet, Worthing, Sheppey United, Greenwich Borough and Tunbridge Wells during a 25-year non-league playing career, before coaching Ashford United's under 23's before taking over a club in the eleventh-tier of English football.
Morgan has performed miracles guiding Aylesford-based K Sports to ninth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table.
The Paperboys have won eight and drawn two of their 16 league games and Brown comes in to replace Ben Franks.
“It is with regret that we say goodbye to our assistant manager Ben Franks due to new working hours,” said Morgan.
“He took over from Darren Hare at the beginning of the season, who also stepped down due to work commitments.
“He has done a great job with the lads and we all wish him well.
“As always in football, when an important member of staff moves on, it’s very important to replace them quickly with the correct person and I feel I’ve excelled myself with the appointment of Kevin Brown.
“He’s been managing Borden Village and we’ve been in constant communication since the start of the season.
“I believe Kevin done a great job over at Borden and believe he will be a great acquisition for K Sports FC.
“We’ve had a decent start to the season so I’m glad to have Kevin as my number two to help us through the second half of the season.”
Luke Thomson will continue to coach the side.
K Sports welcome sixth-placed Erith & Belvedere to Cobdown on Saturday, 4 December (15:00).
Jointly-managed by Danny Murphy and Marlon Patterson, the Deres have collected three more points than the Paperboys.
Borden Village, meanwhile, welcome seventh-placed side Otford United to the Borden Playstool on Saturday, 4 December 2021 (14:00), in the eleventh-tier of English football, two levels beneath K Sports.
