Lane set to sign his squad at end of season bash
Tuesday 25th May 2010
WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Mark Lane says he is searching for a qualified new coach as he prepares for his first full season in charge of the Belmont Road club, writes Stephen McCartney.
Lane took over as manager on a caretaker basis following the decision to part company with Mark Munday - and the 49-year-old Gravesend resident guided the club towards Ryman League Division One South safety with a record of six wins and a draw in his ten games in charge.
With his assistant, Clint Gooding, playing in the middle of the park next season, the pair have decided to find a coach to work alongside Lane on the touchline.
“I’m looking to try and put an advert in for a new coach just to help out with the duties for myself and Clint,” Lane told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“I think we’ve realised that if Clint’s going to play then we need another set of eyes on the touchline on matchdays and also to help out with the training and work on formations and patterns of play and after games and things.”
Lane added: “I need someone who’s a minimum of an UFA B Licence. I’m open, it doesn’t matter if they’ve worked in the Ryman previously of where they’ve worked. I’m just trying to get a coach on board.”
Lane revealed that he will tie down a vast majority of his squad at the club’s presentation night this coming Friday.
“I’ve got the presentation evening on Friday and I’ve been on to all the players and I’m pretty hopeful - I’m more than hopeful that they’re all going to sign on Friday,” added Lane.
“I’ve got the nucleus of the team there. Me and Clint have been ringing around various options over the last four weeks and once I get everybody signed, who I want to, I can go to specific people and picking people for the positions I need.”
When asked whether any players have left Belmont Road, Lane replied, “Not at the moment, no! I think there’s a couple that have been talking to other clubs that I’m aware off, but I’ve not heard anything else, unless you can tell me any different?”
Lane is also finalising the club’s eight-match pre-season campaign.
