Langton searching for that elusive league win

Wednesday 16th September 2009
PAUL JONES returns to the Ashford Town attack for their home game against Whyteleafe on Saturday, having missed their FA Cup exit at Leatherhead last weekend, writes Stephen McCartney.

The hard-working striker tweaked his groin ahead of the 2-0 defeat at Fetcham Grove and was pulled out 30 minutes before kick-off as a precaution.

Another striker, Mark Lovell, a long-term injury victim, is getting fitter and fitter and should make his first appearance in over a year soon.

Looking ahead to the visit of Whyteleafe on Saturday, Nuts & Bolts assistant manager Hugo Langton knows what to expect from the Surrey outfit.

Leading their line is former Cray Wanderers and Thamesmead Town burly striker Richard Dimmock and Langton is wary on what the much-travelled striker could do to his team, as they bid to climb off the foot of the Ryman League Division One South table with their first league win of the campaign.

Whyteleafe arrive at Homelands in 16th place in the table with two wins from their first five games and are a club that have consolidated their position in this division for many years and have a reputation for being a strong and workmanlike side.

“Whyteleafe will be a tough nut to crack,” Langton told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.  “They are well organised at the back and will be lively going forward with Richard Dimmock their focus.”

Langton, who was asked to leave the technical area during their sorry FA Cup exit last weekend, added, “We felt we got some harsh decisions against us last week and we are after that elusive win.

“We will work hard on Saturday and if we can apply ourselves in the right way again and play like we can, then hopefully the three points will come our way.”
