Leatherhead unveil Sammy Moore as player-manager
SAMMY MOORE has been appointed player-manager of Isthmian Premier League side Leatherhead, replacing Jimmy Bullard.
The 29-year-old, Deal born midfielder, was unveiled as the Tanners player-manager by chairman Richard Brady.
“It is with pleasure that the club are able to announce the capture of such an experienced League player to its ranks,” Brady told the Leatherhead website.
“The board were very fortunate to have so many high level applicants apply during the process but Sammy’s enthusiasm coupled with his coaching badges and football knowledge made him a standout candidate.
“We were keen to create continuity after the previous successful regime and Sammy is committed to the club with ambition to move us forward as a club. He is very keen to learn his trade and has already began the important role of recruitment.
“I personally look forward to working with Sammy and know that with all our support he will be welcomed in to create the best environment possible encouraging success within our means.”
Moore started in the youth ranks at Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and Ipswich Town, where he made one Football League appearance. He then moved on loan to Brentford, before playing for Stevenage Borough, Dover Athletic (two spells), AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient.
The Surrey club were second-from-bottom in the Ryman Premier League table when Bullard took over on 17 September 2016 but finished in thirteenth-place with 57 points, finishing four points clear of the relegation zone, which was occupied by Harrow Borough, Canvey Island, AFC Sudbury and Grays Athletic.
Harrow Borough received a get-out-of-jail card as they received a reprieve from relegation so will retain their league status next season.
