Ex Kent League footballer Lee Morgan aims to raise £150,000 to send his seriously ill three-year-old son to America for therapy
FUNDRAISING efforts are taking place this weekend to raise money for a seriously ill three-year-old son of a former Kent League footballer.
Lee Morgan, who played for the likes of Erith & Belvedere, Erith Town and Slade Green amongst others, is raising funds for his son Grayson.
The family need to raise £150,000 to take Grayson to the US for proton therapy. They need to raise funds for their travel, accommodation and the treatment plus any unforeseen stays in hospital bills that may arise if Grayson should get an infection or temperature spike whilst he is in the US.
Grayson will be in the US for up to three months, which puts a huge strain on the family and their finances.
“Grayson has a brain tumour and he’s had two operations at King’s College Hospital and chemotherapy,” said Lee Morgan.
“The chemotherapy hasn’t worked and he is now being sent to America for Proton Therapy.
“The fundraiser is to help support the cost of his treatment and to support the family whilst he is in America.”
Long Lane Football Club are staging a seven-a-side football competition this coming Sunday, 1st May at their ground at Kidbrooke Playing Fields, Dursley Road, London SE3 8PB starting at 12:00.
Morgan hopes the Kent footballing community raises as many funds as they possibly can by donating via the family’s Just Giving Page.
So far two donations have raised £40, but the Kent football community will do all they can to help Lee and his family during their hour of need.
STORY UPDATE – 14:00 – FRIDAY 29 APRIL:
“Since we spoke and the article was published we have had some wonderful news in that the NHS has reversed their decision and will now fund the treatment,” said Tim Morgan.
“Meaning that we no longer need to raise the £150,000 and the current amount of near to £40,000 is now going to be enough to cover their additional costs.
“Lee thanks those who have already donated and mention that any additional money now raised will go to the children’s charity Children With Cancer www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk who have been fantastic in helping secure the funding.”
