Let's get this party started, screams title-winning Dartford captain
AN ALL-TICKET crowd of over 2,000 is expected at Princes Park tomorrow - to join in with Dartford’s championship winning party, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Darts officially clinched the Ryman League Division One North title last Saturday, despite losing 2-1 at Edgware Town, where they were roared on by at least 500 passion filled fans.
But skipper Alex O’Brien is relishing the opportunity of lifting the silverware on the last day of the season.
“I’ve been in the gym, working on my biceps, I’ve heard it’s quite a big Cup,” the 31-year-old midfield rock joked, when speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk at the White Lion Ground last weekend.
Looking ahead to the visit of Wingate & Finchley, O’Brien has challenged his team-mates to end their title winning campaign with a victory.
“I’m sure a couple of the boys will be nervous going into it (but) to be hones the way I am, I just think we need to win the game and enjoy it again.
“I don’t want to be caught like (at Edgware), party spoiling, party poopers, if you like.
“Get the result, lift that thing (the silverware), show (it off to) the crowd.”
Dartford officials have reminded fans to keep off the Princes Park pitch at the final whistle, when the celebrations can finally begin.
“The feeling from the dressing room is that the players would like to be presented with the trophy on the pitch so that everybody in the stadium would have a great view,” said manager Tony Burman when speaking to www.dartfordfootballclub.co.uk today.
“Then the players (will) do a lap of honour in a controlled manner so that they can show their appreciation to all the supporters where ever they maybe positioned around the stadium.
“This of course means supporters staying off the pitch at the final whistle, which we do realise is going to be difficult.
“But it could just be the best way to finish off and appreciate what a fantastic season we have all had together.”
