Lewisham Borough unveil Willie O'Sullivan as their new manager
Friday 10th August 2012
LEWISHAM BOROUGH (Community) have installed former Cray Valley favourite Willie O’Sullivan as their new manager and Steve Mcray as coach. The Ladywell Arena outfit finished in eighth-place in the Kent Invicta League last season and they must wait until Saturday 18th August until their first league game of the new season when they travel to rural Sittingbourne to face Woodstock Park.
“It is great to have Willie and Steve on board as they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge,” said chief executive Ray Simpson.
“Having only just come in on 14 July has meant that they have had very little time to assemble a squad and to prepare for matches as they would have liked but that is the nature of pre-season.”
O’Sullivan, who played for Charlton Athletic and has previously managed in the Kent League and Kent County League with Erith Town and Cray Valley (Paper Mills) respectively, says his side may surprise a few.
He said: “It is great to be back in football at a decent level and I cannot thank the board and especially Ray Simpson for the opportunity and faith which has been shown in me.
“I have been watching matches at this level and have been very impressed with the quality of football and facilities.
“We have had four pre-season matches and lost them all – but I am none too concerned as there have been many positives especially on Wednesday night at Herne Bay, even though we lost 4-0.
“There have been many trialists who are not quite ready, but there are several who will cause a few surprises.”
Meanwhile, Crockenhill start their Kent Invicta League campaign when Sutton Athletic visit Wested Meadow tomorrow.
Keith Jarvis, who is the club’s chairman as well as manager, said: “Pre-season has gone well. We have strengthened the squad from last year.
“We are really looking forward to the start – a hard first game.”
Crockenhill finished in the bottom three last season and Jarvis said he “hopes to surprise a few people,” this time around.
