Lewis issues battlecry to turn around Stones season

Wednesday 12th March 2008

MAIDSTONE UNITED skipper Ben Lewis has urged his team-mates to start showing their true mettle after last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by AFC Hornchurch.

The Stones are without a win in their last five games and have slipped into the relegation zone and they return to Essex this Saturday, looking to perform much better against Harlow Town and more importantly pick up three points.

But as local rivals Tonbridge Angels have proved, a string of decent results will ensure sides will climb up the Ryman Premier League table.

Tommy Warrilow’s side have climbed into ninth place following a run of five straight wins, which started against the Stones on 23rd February.

And Lewis has challenged his team-mates to pick up the three points at the Barrows Farm Stadium on Saturday in a bid to climb out of the bottom three.

“It’s time where we have to stand up and be counted, every player has to go out on Saturday and prove his worth,” Lewis told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.

“We’ve got to show everyone that we are prepared to fight for the cause and stay in this league. It’s getting tight, we’ve deserved criticism on occasions this season and we’re all big enough to accept that.

Lewis added: “It’s up to us now as a team, as players and as men to go out and sort this problem out.”
