Life's a beech for new Angels stopper

GOALKEEPER Lee Worgan believes he will settle in quickly with his new club Tonbridge Angels, following his summer switch from their Ryman Premier League rivals Hastings United.

Angels boss Tommy Warrilow has kept up his policy of signing players from Sussex clubs by bringing in Worgan and the Olorunda brothers, Tim and Ade, from The Pilot Field.

Playing alongside pals from the east Sussex coast will enhance the Angels push towards promotion into the Blue Square South.

“Yeah, of course it makes it easier (to settle down)”, Worgan, the former Wimbledon, Rushden & Diamonds and Cardiff City goalkeeper, told www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk.

“They are really good mates of mine, like the majority of the team down there at Pilot Field are. Both are good players. I am looking forward to playing with them next season and I’m going to enjoy it even more when they prove a lot of people wrong because they are both underrated.

“They continue to work hard at their game and both really good blokes off the field so I’m equally as pleased for them as I am for myself at moving to a club like Tonbridge Angels.”

All of Warrilow’s signings to date have arrived from Sussex clubs, but Worgan already knows some of the current Angels’ players.

He said: “I’ve played against the majority of the players over the past few seasons but I’ve played alongside Anthony Storey, who I have known for some years.

“I also know John Westcott and Leon Legg because both are from the Eastbourne area.”

With the club among the favourites to land the Ryman Premier League title next season, Worgan, who enjoys the beech in his home-town during his spare time, is confident that he will establish himself in west Kent.

“I am hoping to establish myself as the best keeper in the league,” said Worgan, who has replaced another highly-rated goalkeeper in Matt Reed.

“I set myself really high personal goals and targets, which I like to achieve and keep to myself.

“As a team I think we should be looking at the play-off’s at least, hopefully a step further.”
