Little returns to "his spiritual home" Slade Green

Tuesday 03rd July 2007

Peter Little has returned to his spiritual home to take up the position as manager of Kent League side Slade Green.

It will be the Scotsman’s second stint as Green boss. He is also a former player and coach with the club.

Speaking about the appointment, club spokesman Mr Robert Smith, said: "We are thrilled to have Peter back on board. We were extremely disappointed when he relinquished his position as coach and left us to take up the position as manager of Erith Town 18 months ago but fully understand his reasons for doing so. Peter was desperate to get back into management and the occasion arose.

"Unfortunately for him things didn’t work out at Erith Town. However, anyone who knows Peter will be fully aware that his real home is here down at The Green".

As aforementioned not only is Little a former Green player but he has also held the position of manager back in the mid 1990’s but was forced to step down due to work commitments.

However, he returned to The Small Glen in 2003 to take up the position of coach under then manager Phil Miles before moving onto local rivals Erith Town in December 2005.

The Little family is well known around the club with both the committee and supporters alike and back in the 1960’s Peter’s Dad’ Peter Little ‘Senior’ was Slade Green manager during their Kent Amateur league days.

And to this day the senior member of the Little family who returned to his native Scotland several years ago and resides in Perthshire still always looks out for The Green’s results in the Sunday papers. He for one will be thrilled that Peter is back at The Green.

The appointment comes following the departure of last season’s management team of Danny Evans, Adam Heaslewood and Andy Silk.

Evans has decided to participate in vets football, a change in work commitments has forced Heaslewood to step down while Silk has returned to the Ryman League to take up a coaching role with Ryman League Division One South outfit Tooting & Mitcham United.

A statement issued by the club added: "The Committee would like to put on record their sincere thanks to the all three of them for their efforts last season."
