Lordswood boss Richard Styles: Our league position is not one we are happy with at all, but we are there because we haven’t won enough games and mistakes have cost us

LORDSWOOD manager Richard Styles says he is not happy with his side’s league position.

The Lords are in 12^th place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 32 points on the board from their 22 league outings after coming away from promotion chasing side Cray Valley with a 3-0 defeat last time out.

“Our last game against Cray Valley was a tough one to take,” admitted Styles.

“We competed very well and did everything that was expected. We were happy going in at 0-0 at half time.

“The second half, unfortunately, didn’t go to plan and mistakes cost us at the wrong time. 

“At 1-0 we had a couple of chances we should’ve capitalised on that we didn’t and we knew they would throw everything at us to try and win the game considering their situation.”

League leaders Corinthian are the visitors to Martyn Grove tomorrow.

Michael Golding’s side have banked 56 points from their 24 league games and are three points clear of another surprise package in the shape of Fisher.

“We go into Saturday against another of the league challengers,” said Styles.

“This will be a different type of game as Corinthian are in a different position now to where they have been before when we have played them.

“Saying that, all of the pressure and expectation is on them to deliver to continue their form and their league position which is a very tight top five.

“We’ve already played them once this season, beating them 1-0 away in the Challenge Cup. 

“In terms of us, our expectation will be as high as ever from the staff and the players in terms of what we expect and what we know we are capable of.

“Our league position is not one we are happy with at all, but we are there because we haven’t won enough games and mistakes have cost us.

“We need to get a run together from now to the end of the season to finish as high as possible and better last year’s league position of eighth. This wasn’t the plan at the beginning of the season but it is where we are now.

“Having last Saturday without a fixture has probably done us some good as it has allowed some players to recover from knocks and injury in time to be available for Saturday and future games.

“We have had a good weeks training and preparation and we will be raring to go come Saturday.

“We have signed highly-rated young striker Alfie Bates from Sheppey United this week.  He adds another string to our bow and is a very talented, hungry 17-year-old, who has first team experience and is one who can have a really good future in the game with bags of potential.

“Alfie has bought into our policy and setup and what we are trying to achieve and he is available tomorrow.”
