As a club we’ve had a good 2018 and we’ll be looking to finish it as strongly as possible, says Lordswood manager Richard Styles
LORDSWOOD manager Richard Styles says he wants to finish the season strongly.
Styles men came away from struggling Rusthall with a 4-0 win last weekend and go into the festive period sitting in the top eight in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 28 points on the board from 16 games.
“The boys played extremely well and fully deserved the victory,” said Styles.
“We’re currently on the back of a four game unbeaten run in the league and have scored eight goals in the last two games, which has been good to find some form to take into the Christmas period.”
Lordswood host Tunbridge Wells on Saturday. Jason Bourne’s side have turned the corner and are now unbeaten in three games in all competitions and have climbed up into the bottom five with 17 points from as many games.
“We’ll know a lot more about what we’re dealing with after the Christmas games and we’ll be looking to put points on the board, that’s for sure,” said Styles.
“Ever since I started playing senior football I’ve always been told the league table comes along from 1 January, so we’ll review it then and see where we are.
“Out of the top eight of the league we have played the least amount of games, so it’s in our own hands really.
“One thing is for certain, we’ll be contesting everything we can to put as many points on the board as possible in each game we play.
“The atmosphere and squad I have is one I’m really pleased about. I’ve got a great group of lads with a good variation of experience and youth, who will all battle and fight for each other and there is a real togetherness and spirit. They’re a joy to manage and work with.
“Squad wise, we haven’t really got many injuries at the moment, which is a huge plus at this time of the year with a lot of games in a short space of time.
“I’m really looking forward to Saturday’s game because both teams come into it in form and both teams will be looking to win the game so it looks like it will be an exciting game for all involved.`
“As a club we’ve had a good 2018 and we’ll be looking to finish it as strongly as possible.”
Styles had this message for the Lordswood faithful.
“Myself, the staff and the players all appreciate the support we get and we do everything we can do make the supporters go home happy.
“I wish them all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as well as all of the non-league football family.”
