Lordswood could be serious contenders, says Jason Lillis

LORDSWOOD boss Jason Lillis has today unveiled Barry Morgan as his new assistant manager.

Morgan has been drafted in to the Medway based club as John Guest has decided to spend time on the “finer things in life” that he wishes to do and he goes with all the blessings and best wishes from the Lordswood committee, management, players and supporters.

Lillis told www.lordswoodfc.co.uk: "When John explained to me about his desire to do things on his “bucket list” (his words) and that he wanted to be able to find time to do this, he said he would stand down as my assistant to complete it.

“After long discussion I respected his request and I wish him well in completing his list and offer a massive thank you personally for the hard work he has put in. He has been a major part of getting Lordswood back on track to succeed.”

Former Herne Bay manager Lillis is looking forward to working alongside Morgan again.

He said: “I have known Barry for over 20 years as my dad played for the legendary Ernie Morgan (Barry’s dad) for Maidstone United and Dartford and Tonbridge. So every Saturday we would meet up and play football on the pitches before and after games.

“Barry is no stranger to Lordswood and has vast experience in non-league football and is well respected.

“Barry has come back to the club as my assistant manager with excitement because he has seen the hard work and the progression that has been made on and off the pitch. He is good around the players and pesters the life out of me with ideas and questions but this is Morgo, and I would not want it any other way.

“I worked with Barry when I was at Herne Bay as I asked him to do a similar role for me when I was manager there and we had great success together. I know what I will be getting with Morgo and the players will love having him around.”

Lillis and Guest guided Lords to 13th place (fourth-from-bottom) in the Kent League table last season and Lillis is setting the club’s heights high next term.

The highest position that the club has finished in recent years was eighth in 2005-2006.

Lillis said: “It is exciting for me as I feel with Morgo beside me it will be just where we left off at Herne Bay and a lot of teams now will be having a good think and sensing that Lordswood could be serious contenders within the league now."
