Lovell keen on Glyde return
ASHFORD TOWN manager Steve Lovell has revealed his interest in signing utility man Charlie Glyde from their Ryman League Division One South rivals Folkestone Invicta.
The left-sided player spent time at the Homelands on loan at the beginning of last season and Lovell, who also signed him for Sittingbourne, is keen to bring Glyde back to the club.
“We have spoken to Folkestone and Charlie and things are looking positive,” Lovell told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk.
“He is a good lad who can play in a number of positions. He wants to come to us so I hope to get that sorted very soon. Charlie will be a very good acquisition for the club.”
In other transfer news, Lovell said that he was still locked in talks with the club of a striker that he is desperate to bring to Homelands but hopes to hear more by the end of the week.
Lovell also hopes to hear from Daniel Brathwaite early next week, as the former Dover Athletic full-back continues to consider the club’s offer of a new contract.
Away from the playing side, the manager also revealed that he has offered the assistant manager position to someone after Rob Udberg left the club to complete his degree.
Lovell said: “I have asked someone to come in and work alongside me and if he accepts I will be chuffed to bits.
“It would be great for the club if he took on the role because he knows the game inside out and will bring so much to Ashford.
“I would love him to take it and hopefully I will receive some good news by the end of the week.”
