Lovell releases pair to play more games

Monday 24th November 2008

ASHFORD TOWN have today announced that goalkeeper Jamie Riley and striker Andy Doerr have been released by the club, writes Sam Dixon.

Riley was signed by manager Steve Lovell from East Thurrock in November last year and was a regular in the side until recently where he has found his place under threat from Seb Barton and Josh Willis.

The stopper made 37 appearances for the Nuts & Bolts.

Former Lordswood striker Doerr joined Ashford towards the end of last season when Lovell signed him from Kent League side Herne Bay.

Having recovered from a nasty leg break, the forward made 16 appearances for the club, many as substitute, scoring three goals.

“Jamie was finding it hard as his new job was not giving him enough time to work on his fitness and I think it has showed a bit this season,” explained Lovell, when speaking to www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk.

“Andy needs to start playing regularly to get his confidence back after his broken leg and we can’t guarantee that here so we have let him go.

“They are two top lads and I’m sure they will do a great job for another team.”
