Luchford rubbishes big spending tag

JUSTIN LUCHFORD is “sick and tired” of Faversham Town being referred to as the Manchester City or Chelsea of the Kent League because they can attract players to the club, writes Glenn Pearson.

The Lilywhites boss was left exasperated after watching his side throw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against local rivals Norton Sports last Saturday.

Co-manager Luchford told YourSwale that he has had enough of other teams claiming they are the richest side in the division, and admits other teams are now raising their games against them.

He said: “It is an absolute joke that people look at us as being a team with a big budget. We have got these players in because both I and Jimmy (Strouts) have good contacts.

“It is rubbish that we have loads of money because we have big names. I am sick to death of reading on internet websites and forums that we do this and we do that and we have loads of money.

“I don’t want to listen to it. We are like every other team just trying to get results and at the moment we are inconsistent.”

L
uchford went on a Joe Kinnear-type rant after the game – minus the 52 expletives – after watching his side capitulate at Winch’s Field.

He said: “I am absolutely fuming, there is no other way of describing it. For 85 minutes there was only one team out there. We created I don’t know how many chances. For the first 15 minutes we should have been out of sight, I should have been putting subs on at half-time.

For five minutes we have become complacent and that is just not good enough. I am going to go shopping this week because I tell you, they need a rocket up them.

“Norton have done really well to get where they have done and beating sides, but they are not in the same class as us, we should not be losing to Norton Sports away, it is just not good enough.”
