Lydd Town axe Nicky Southall after only four games in charge of the bottom-of-the-table side

Friday 27th December 2024

LYDD TOWN have parted company with former Lordswood manager Nicky Southall after only four completed games in charge of the club.

The Lydders are rooted to the foot of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having picked up three wins and three draws from their 17 games.

The club are five points adrift of Southall’s former club, Lordswood and seven points adrift of Hollands & Blair in the ninth-tier.

Southall, 52, was appointed head coach at Lydd Town on Monday 18 November, having left Lordswood after only 45 games in charge.

“Lydd Town have tonight parted ways with first team manager Nicky Southall,” said a club statement.

“This decision comes ahead of Lydd Town’s next fixture (at home to) Kennington after the club’s most recent results.

“Under 23’s manager Dexter Gondongwe as well as first team player’s Ryan Smith and James Rogers will all take charge for the Kennington fixture.

“We would like to wish Nicky and his team, the best for the future.”

Southall’s first game in charge of Lydd Town saw their home Challenge Cup tie against Rochester United abandoned with Lydd Town leading 2-0 at the time.

However, Lydd Town have lost all three of their league games under the former Gillingham midfielder.

The Lydders have lost to Lordswood (1-2), Larkfield & New Hythe (1-2) in the League before losing 8-0 at home to lower-division side Rochester United in the rescheduled Challenge Cup tie, before they lost 2-0 at Erith & Belvedere in Southall’s last game in charge of the club last Saturday.

Dan Scorer’s Kennington side, meanwhile, arrive at Dengemarsh Road tomorrow sitting in the bottom six with 21 points from their 22  games.
