Lydd will bounce straight back, insists Hughes

MANAGER Dennis Hughes says he is extremely confident that his Lydd Town side will bounce back following their dire campaign last season, writes Stephen McCartney.

Lydd were rooted to the foot of the Vandanel Kent County League Division One East table with just one win and two draws from their 20-match campaign.

They actually finished their campaign on MINUS one point - but Hughes, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk this afternoon insists things will improve next season.

“With new players coming in for the new season and building on what we have achieved in the final weeks of last season, can only make us strong contenders to come straight back,” he said.

“Let me tell you this, this club will not be playing in the second division at the end of next season.  Our aim is to win the division and win it comfortably.”

But the former Staplehurst boss, wants a shake up of promotion and relegation issues and adopt a similar system to the Sussex County League.

Lydd finished 23 points adrift of second-from-bottom side Oakwood last season.

“I realise and understand we finished bottom,” he said.  “But only taking over a club near the end off the season with no chance of steering them to safety and with our facilities, only tells me how important we are to the league!”

He added: “With three teams promoted from the second division and two teams relegated from the premier, left us no chance of grasping a hope.

“I hope the League will start to look at how other League are run regarding promotion and relegation and one off those Leagues are not too far away from where we play.”
