MacDonald signs two-year deal for Southend United
Southend United have made their first foray into the transfer market this summer to land striker Charlie MacDonald on a free transfer.
MacDonald bagged 27 goals last season for Blue Square Premier club Ebbsfleet United as the Kent side narrowly missed out on the play-off’s.
However, despite being offered a new deal by the side formally known as Gravesend & Northfleet, MacDonald has opted to arrive at Roots Hall on a free having put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the League One club last night.
The 26-year-old was in prolific form last season as he finished second in the Conference goalscoring charts with 27 goals , only one behind Dagenham & Redbridge’s Paul Benson.
MacDonald originally joined the Stonebridge Road club in 2005 after signing on a free from Crawley Town and went onto score 40 goals in 63 appearances over the course of the last two seasons.
A former trainee at Charlton Athletic, the Southwark born striker has previously played in the League whilst on loan to Cheltenham Town, Torquay United and Colchester United.
