Margate manager Jay Saunders signs former Billericay Town centre-half Lewis Knight
MARGATE manager Jay Saunders has unveiled the signing of centre-back Lewis Knight.
The 28-year-old was playing for Billericay Town in the Vanarama National League South last season before the campaign was halted due to Covid-19 and funding issues.
The 6’ 4’’ defender has previously played for East Thurrock United, Maidstone United, Concord Rangers and Welling United among his previous clubs and brings with him plenty of experience which Saunders is keen to tap into.
“I’m really pleased to welcome Lewis to the club,” Saunders told Margate’s website.
“Lewis is well-rounded, experienced centre back who has played a lot of games at a higher level and can bring lots to our team and squad.
“Lewis is a character who will bring a lot both on and off the pitch. I think he’s someone our young players can learn a lot from and he is a player I expect to become a real leader and favourite in a Gate shirt.”
Meanwhile, the Isthmian League Premier Division club announced last Friday that they have received approval from the Secretary of State and Thanet Council to redevelop Hartsdown Park.
“This is great news for the club, our supporters, our local community and our future,” said the club.
“We look forward to making some further positive progress and will keep fans updated.”
