Monday 14th January 2019

After a Margate Football Club Ltd Extraordinary General Meeting held seven days ago, the Isthmian Football League Premier Division club have confirmed tonight that a significant step has been taken towards securing the future of the club and the Hartsdown Park ground with the purchase of the freehold title.

Shareholders voted to approve a resolution enabling the purchase of the freehold title of the land from Landlord, Thanet District Council, together with additional land required to facilitate redevelopment of the football stadium with new facilities and associated commercial uses to support a sustainable future.

After 18 months of discussions with Thanet District Council, transfer of the freehold title has now been completed, including protections to preserve its use for association football, sport and recreation.

Detailed design and project planning will now be progressed to develop the ground in line with its planning permission.

Margate director Chris Chambers said in a statement, which was published on www.margate-fc.co.uk:  “With this momentous decision the club, along with its development arm MFC Investments Ltd, now has the ability to move the club forward to create a stadium, ensure a sustainable future, enable growth on and off the pitch and continue our community partnership work.

“We thank Thanet District Council, for its belief in our vision and most importantly, our supporters and shareholders for their patience and continuing support to the club through both good times and challenging times.”
