Margate appoint Ben Greenhalgh as player-manager
MARGATE have appointed Ben Greenhalgh as player-manager.
The 32-year-old attacker has been at Hartsdown Park since the 2021-22 season.
The Hartsdown Park club were relegated from the Isthmian League Premier Division having finished fourth-from-bottom having picked up 39 points (10 wins, nine draws and 23 defeats).
“After a long and thorough process, with plenty of applicants for a new manager, Ben stood out for us, having already dedicated three years to this club, and his ambitions align with ours, to bounce straight back up to the Isthmian Premier Division,” said a club statement.
Greenhalgh, who has previously played for Welling United, Inter Milan, Como (loan), Ebbsfleet United, Maidstone United, Concord Rangers, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Stenhousemuir (loan), Hemel Hempstead Town (loan), Dartford, Tonbridge Angels and Margate.
“It’s a privilege to, not only be part of this club as a player, but to join some great managers in the history books of Margate FC, is not something I take for granted,” added Greenhalgh, who has player-assistant manager experience during his time on the Kent coast.
“I thank the club for this opportunity and look forward to steering us back to winning ways.”
Meanwhile, former Margate manager Reece Prestedge has joined Ryan Maxwell’s management team at Isthmian League South East Division rivals Sittingbourne.
The Brickies’ enjoyed their best ever campaign in the division last season, finishing in third-place in the table.
Prestedge nor Mark Stimson were able to keep Margate in the seventh-tier last season.
