Margate launch youth academy

Monday 21st June 2010

MARGATE have today launched their Football Academy in association with the Ursuline College.

Representing the Ryman Premier League club was director Cliff Egan and the Ursuline College, Merv Davey, Head of the college.

"The Academy is designed to provide a more balanced opportunity for 16 to 19 year olds in both their education and football development" Mr Egan told www.margate-fc.com.

"Margate Football Club has entered into a partnership with the Ursuline College, who are the most successful Football Academy in East Kent; offering students of 16 years and older further education with the chance to enhance their university chances and also their football playing and coaching careers.

"The objective of the partnership is to provide an education and football opportunity and it is hoped that the participants will benefit from the quality of education on offer and also from the daily training sessions that will improve their football skills.

"The members of the Academy will represent Margate Football Club's reserve side which will compete in the Kent League Division One next season. We hope that in time we will see a crop of youngsters representing the club at first team level or at an even higher standard.

"This is designed to be a long term project to give our local youngsters the best opportunity not only in their education but also in their football careers. The Academy will also provide a management structure for the games so that the Academy players are provided with the right balance of matches and rest."

For anyone interested in joining the Academy, assessment days will be held every Wednesday during July at The Ursuline College Training Ground, Canterbury Road Birchington, at 7pm.

The Margate Football Club Academy is fully supported by the club's manager Iain O'Connell and the Board of Directors, and it is hoped that the partnership with Ursuline College will produce some fine footballers for the future.
