Margate search for another new manager as Butler resigns after 12 league games

Wednesday 10th February 2010
MARGATE begin the search for yet another new manager, following news that Mark Butler resigned following his side’s
1-1 home draw against Wealdstone last night, writes Stephen McCartney.

The appointment of the Aldershot based Butler caused a few raised eyebrows when he became Terry Yorath’s successor, despite a successful stint at Ashford Town (Middlesex).

His first game in charge of Margate was a 2-1 defeat away to Hastings United on 7 November 2009 and in total he took charge of 12 league games, beating Waltham Abbey in his second game in charge and then winning an away game at Maidstone United on Boxing Day, as well as drawing games against Harrow Borough, Bognor Regis Town, his former club Ashford Town (Middlesex), Horsham and last night’s draw against Wealdstone.

The Thanet side are presently third-from-bottom in the Ryman Premier League, having picked up 25 points (6 wins and 7 draws) from their 24 games.

A brief statement, issued by the club on its website www.margate-fc.com said, “A meeting held between the manager and the club’s Chief Executive after last night’s game resulted in the manager submitting his resignation to the club.

“The directors have today confirmed that they have accepted Mark Butler’s resignation and a further statement will be issued by the directors tomorrow.”
