Member clubs vote for League name change

The Kent League will be called the Southern Counties East Football League next season after member clubs voted unanimously to change the name at today's League AGM at Brands Hatch Hotel.

Representatives from Crowborough Athletic and Rye United – who are expected to switch from the Sussex County League – and Greenwich Borough, who have secured a groundshare deal at Dartford’s Princes Park, failed to turn up.

Crowborough’s and Rye’s appeals against their switch to the League are to be heard on 3 July – and as a result the League’s constitution and League Cup draw were put on hold.

A statement issued by the League before the meeting said: “Having for many years enjoyed the membership of London clubs and now with Whyteleafe from Surrey and possibly Crowborough Athletic and Rye United from Sussex, the Kent League has applied to the Football Association to change its name.

“This name reflects the extant Northern Counties East League.”

Kent Invicta League champions Phoenix Sports – and third-placed finishers Ashford United – were confirmed as League members for next season.

Glebe, who will be groundsharing Holmesdale’s Oakley Road ground next season, will be elected in to the Kent Invicta League.

Meanwhile, there will be no reserve division next season – the first time in 38 years that the League will operate with no reserve division.
