Merstham appoint Tony Reid as their new manager
MERSTHAM chairman Paul Glasgow has appointed Tony Reid as their new manager, who replaces Peter Adeniyi, who left to return to manage Isthmian League Premier Division side Carshalton Athletic.
The Weldon Way outfit will be the only Surrey based side in next season’s Isthmian League South East Division.
Reid, a former Bromley striker, guided Woking-based Westfield from the Combined Counties League into the then Isthmian League South Division between 2016-2019.
He has since managed Walton & Hersham, Eastbourne Town, Corinthian-Casuals and Farnham Town.
“We were fortunate in having some excellent candidates interviewing for the post and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision,” said Glasgow in a statement.
“But we had a list of the football and non-football values we were looking for in appointing a new manager and Tony ticked all of the boxes. He felt like a great fit for us.”
Reid says he is delighted to take up the manager’s role at Merstham.
“As an ex-Merstham player, I know the club well but I also know the importance the club places on the ethos and values that have come to represent Merstham FC,” added Reid.
“The club has endured a tough few seasons but I want to bring stability to the playing side and I’m targeting a top-half finish this season.
“We know the South East is a very competitive league, so it won’t be easy but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Merstham finished in the bottom three in the Isthmian League South Central last season, picking up 36 points from their 38 games.
They retained their League status by beating Egham Town
3-1 at home in the Inter-Step Play-Off.
