Moving to Thamesmead wasn't a difficult choice to make, says Bexley Borough boss Liam Kelly

BEXLEY BOROUGH have confirmed that they will be sharing the facilities at Thamesmead Town next season.

The club have moved venues from Bexleyheath to share the artificial pitch at Bayliss Avenue, the home of Ryman Premier League newcomers Thamesmead Town.

Bexley Borough and Seven Acre & Sidcup’s reserve side will be playing on the artificial playing surface in the Haart of Kent County League Division Two West next season, while Thamesmead Town play on the main grass pitch next door in the main stadium.

“I am pleased to announce that Bexley Borough have secured the brand new football facilities at Sporting Club Thamesmead for the coming season,” said club owner Liam Kelly, who will be joint-manager alongside former Bromley, Bexley Borough and Crockenhill defender Jamie Leggett next season.

“It really wasn’t a difficult choice to make really,” added Mr Kelly.

“At Sporting Club Thamesmead the facility is sparkling.  The new clubhouse has a bar terrace that overlooks the 4G pitch that we will be using and the changing rooms are pristine with adequate showers, lockers and space to enable us, not only to survive in the Kent County League, but to excel.

“The effect 4G pitches have on a team is up for debate but you just have to look at newly-promoted Halls AFC who used the (3G) surface at Princes Park Dartford last season to see how it can raise your game.

“Halls won’t mind me saying that there were a much improved outfit last season than in previous years.

“In the deal we have managed to broker a share with the promoted Seven Acre & Sidcup reserves.  A move brokered by Lee Hill and I - in a good footballing but competitive spirit.  Should make for a nice little derby next season.”

Meanwhile, Crockenhill are searching for a new management team for their reserve side next season.

The Crocks’ second string will also be playing in Division Two West next season.

They lost Ross Baker, who has left the club to go to manage Bexlians’ reserve side, who will be playing in Division Three West next season.
