New Whitstable boss Peter Nott looks forward to renew partnership with Steve Nolan

Friday 21st January 2011
NEWLY appointed Whitstable Town manager Peter Nott was fulsome in his praise for the way caretaker manager Steve Nolan had taken charge of the side following the departure of Mark Lane.

Nolan took charge of five games and collected eight points during that time and as a result Whitstable have climbed one place above the drop zone and travel to Chatham Town tomorrow with former Maidstone United manager Nott, who was appointed late on Wednesday night.

“Steve (Nolan) is a man I know well as we had an excellent working relationship when we were together at Maidstone United,“ Nott told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“Steve is a great coach and I am delighted that he has decided to stay on and work with me to move the club forward.

“I think he deserves mine and the clubs thanks for the way he has steadied the club during a difficult time, but then knowing Steve as I do I knew that he would help the club in any way he could.

“It’s obvious that the players at the club respect the way he works which I have seen this at first hand; I have watched five of the last six matches Whitstable have played, Steve is outstanding as a coach and is a wonderful asset to me and the club.”

Nott, who lives in Maidstone, met the Whitstable players for the first time as manager at training last night.

“When I met the players and Steve last night I was impressed with the way the chairman (Joe Brownett) dealt with the situation. My reception from the players was good and I know that they are players that I can enjoy working with.“

Chatham Town eased their relegation fears by ending a run of seven games without a win, courtesy of a convincing 4-1 win over nine-man Fleet Town on Tuesday night.

Nott is looking forward to tomorrow’s game at Maidstone Road.

He said: “I am very much looking forward to taking the team to Chatham tomorrow for my first match.
Let me say that the way they have played during the games I have watched I have been very encouraged by the team spirit they have all shown, if they take that into the remaining games any talk of finishing in the bottom half of the table will be a distant memory.”

MARGATE have today completed the signing of striker Tom Bradbrook from cash-strapped Sittingbourne.

The former Dartford striker scored fourteen goals for the Ryman League Division One South club to take the Brickies into the play-off picture, but a dip in form has coincided with Gary Abbott’s budget being cut 100%.

Defender Laurence Harvey signed for Maidstone United last week, but the defender was sent-off on his debut for the Stones last weekend and Bradbrook put pen to paper for Ryman Premier League Margate and is expected to feature against Hastings United at Hartsdown Park tomorrow.

In a statement, Margate boss Iain O’Connell told www.margate-fc.com : “I’m really pleased to have signed Tom. There were a host of clubs chasing him so I’m delighted he chose us.

“He’s athletic, has a good goal scoring record and will be a great addition to the squad at Margate.”

O’Connell, meanwhile, has parted company with diminutive winger Dean Grant.

"I'd like to thank Dean for his efforts at the club but he haven't been able to get the best out of him," he said

Sittingbourne secretary John Pitts, who posted a message on the club’s fans forum on the official website www.sittingbournefc.co.uk  is sorry to see Bradbrook depart Bourne Park.

“He was offered terms by them “to good to refuse.
We would like to wish Tom the best of luck at Hartsdown Park and thank him for all he has done for Sittingbourne.

“Tom was the subject of approaches from Leatherhead, Metropolitan Police, Thamesmead Town, Maidstone United, Whitehawk and of course Margate, so someone has money!”

Meanwhile, in Blue Square Bet South, Dover Athletic boss Martin Hayes has made a double loan swoop by signing Rushden and Diamonds midfielder Lewwis Spence and Barnet defender-striker Danny Kelly (writes Justin Allen).

Spence, 23, and Kelly, 20, both join initally for one month but with views to staying until the end of the season.

Hayes told www.doverathletic.com: "We needed to beef things up a bit and these two lads will hopefully freshen the squad a little.

"Justin Edinburgh at Rushden and Paul Fairclough at Barnet both rate these players and have done us a favour by letting them come to us to get games under their belt.

"We have had a few injuries recently and needed a couple more options in the squad. These lads will go straight into the squad for this weekend's game."

Lewwis is correctly spelt with a double "W" while Danny can play either centre-half or centre-forward, perhaps in the Dion Dublin mould.

Hayes added: "He's versatile that's for sure."
