Old Bromleians appoint Danny Wakeling as their new manager
OLD BROMLEIANS have unveiled Danny Wakeling as their new manager.
The former FC Elmstead manager takes charge of the Bromley based club, who finished their NRG Gym Kent County League Division Two West campaign in the bottom two, having won five and drawn three of their 20 league games.
Wakeling comes to the Broms with a tremendous experienced background at various levels and he brings with him his trusted Martin Munden, Steve Devereux and George Jones, the latter two being part of his playing staff.
Chairman Phil Bartlett said: “Danny’s ambitious plan is to progress up the Kent County League with the ultimate aim of achieving the lofty heights of Southern Counties East Football League and the Senior FA competitions that come with it.
“There is an ambitious five-year plan both on and off the pitch to make the Broms one of the most prominent football club’s in the area, this is fully supported by both the committee and current playing membership.”
Old Bromleians was formed in 1922 by Bromley Grammar students – now The Ravensbourne School – in Hayes Lane.
The club own their ground Scrubs Farm, Lower Gravel Road, which is close to Bromley bus garage and is affiliated to The Amateur Football Association.
The club have had good success over the years in amateur football, much of which has been witnessed by secretary John Cooper, who after 64 years’ service, still opens the club and serves behind the bar on match days.
The chairman added: “Recent success has been hard to come by hence the move to bring in a proven winner like Dan.
“Hopefully a successful first team will breed success across the adult section into the two other Saturday sides and successful Saturday veterans section.
“A thriving junior section with teams in every age group and recognised charter status, the highest level of coaching and excellent private facilities the future looks good for the Broms.”
