On our day we're capable of winning against any team in our league, says Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg says his players are fit and ready to go when The Skrill South campaign finally gets underway tomorrow.

Conference South clubs have had to wait an extra seven days to get their league campaigns underway and Bromley travel to Woking to tackle Hayes & Yeading United tomorrow.

The Ravens finished in fifteenth-place last season, whilst Hayes & Yeading finished two places lower in the table, level on 48 points.

“We’re now looking forward to the start of the season,” said Goldberg on the eve of the new football season.

“It’s been a good pre-season campaign. I feel that we’ve progressed over the weeks and over the games schedule and we now feel that we’re well prepared, the team’s primarily shaping up and we’re also fortunate that most of the starting players are fit and ready to go.”

Hayes & Yeading United are under new management this season in the shape of Phil Babb, who made over 400 senior appearances in seventeen years as a professional footballer and gained 35 international caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Goldberg, who guided the club to London Senior Cup glory last season, is expecting a tough opening game tomorrow.

He said: “I see that they’ve got a new manager and new expectations I believe and it’s an improved budget for them as well and you see from some of their signings they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.”

Goldberg has unveiled that he has signed 21 players for the new campaign.

Albert Jarrett, Ashley Nicholls, Bradley Goldberg (on-loan from Dagenham & Redbridge), Brendan Kiernan, Danny Waldren, Dean Pooley, Elliot Buchanan, Jack Holland, Jay May, Joe Anderson, Joe Welch, Jordan Clarke, Lewis Carey, Mike Jones, Pierre Joseph-Dubois, Rob Swaine, Reece Hall, Shamir Mullings, Steven Smith, Thomas O’Connor and Warren McBean have all put pen to paper on what Goldberg describes as a “sensible budget.”

Goldberg said: “Obviously it’s not quite a 21-man squad yet because Albert Jarrett won’t be available until January due to his recovery of his long term injury. He had surgery on his knee but we’re expecting him back into the programme in January.

“We have got a squad that has got strength-in-depth, I believe this season and hopefully this season for the first time we’ll be working with this squad consistently throughout the season than we ever had before and that we won’t have such a long list of players that join us and leave us throughout the season as we have done in previous seasons.”

Bromley return to Hayes Lane next Tuesday (7:45pm) when newly-promoted Whitehawk visit.

The Brighton-based outfit have sealed back-to-back promotions and have a reputation as big-spenders during their Ryman League days.

Goldberg said: “We really don’t know what to expect from Whitehawk, although that they’ve got an awful lot of money behind them and they’ll be one of those that will be expecting to not just be able to position themselves in the league solidly but potentially be one of those contenders for the play-offs.

“I’m hoping that it’s a good thing that we’re playing against them early on so we get them before they’ve adjusted to the temperament of the league and at the same time we’re expecting that they’ll be a difficult game but we believe that against any team in this league, on our day we’re capable of winning.”
